Myrna Shoa is a filmmaker, animator, published author and illustrator of stories, retelling the Greek Myths in a modern urban setting as well as stories about her immigrant family background. She has had two successful businesses creating and selling her designs as fashion and as storytelling greeting cards and prints.

Timuchin Dindjer, an ex BBC producer and director, created campaigns across TV, Radio, online, events and in print, with strong social call to action. As a filmmaker and storyteller he feels his way through to the heart of a story to tease out a powerful emotive narrative. He’s edited Real Life Guides, a series of books on vocational training for Trotman Publishing and has published two training manuals for the BBC.
We met by chance on a filmmaking course and made a film about Portobello, discovering in the process our passion for stories and storytelling, recognising that it is through our shared stories that we all connect to one another, to a community and to the wider world. We found out that both of us before we met had lived our lives through creative media, art, film, TV and writing.
We both developed and ran many training sessions aimed at professionals and felt we could use those models to develop and create something more universal that can resonate with diverse communities.
Our entrepreneurial spirit gave birth to A World in a Suitcase.

We had a Eureka moment when we coined the concept of a Suitcase containing a World as it made sense to us, being a container as a way of bringing to life different aspects of our worlds, as well as the wider world.

It’s a simple and powerful concept appreciated and understood by everyone taking part or witnessing its impact on participants.
A World in a Suitcase was first piloted at Wellcome Trust in 2016 and it’s been rolled out in various forms since, across London, reaching 100s of people from all walks of life. The beauty of our concept is that it is not rigid it can bend and change organically according to what each group needs.

Our sensitive interaction with participants means they can see and feel we are not judgemental, that we are responsive to what they have produced, are humbled by their openness in sharing meaningful personal stories.

We hope to continue to grow this project with support from partners and funders, so that many more people can benefit from its impact.
